A
Tower Rooftop, an unlocked door and a glimpse of Heaven
Tamara and I prepared
a knockout dinner at my Tower Deli. There was beautiful music, lots
of good red wine, glances, kisses, touching, innuendo's and a beautiful
starry night. Everything was perfect, but something was still missing.
I thought for a minute and said "Come with me Tamara".
With a bottle of
red in hand, we walked up 8 flights of stairs to the top of the building
whereupon by some stroke of luck the door to the roof was unlocked.
It was a clear beautiful night and you could see for miles. The air
was warm and soft. We found a comfortable spot, sipped our wine, held
each other and talked for hours and were completely taken over by the
moment. What a feeling, if my thoughts had voice, you could have heard
me scream Bellissimo! all the way to Cleveland. I felt like I had just
seen a brief glimpse of heaven. We reluctantly came down somewhere in
the wee small hours of the morning and made our dessert that we had
skipped earlier.
"There
is more difference in the quality of our pleasures than in the amount"
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our early morning
dessert is simply titled:
Toccare il
cielo (I felt like I was touching Heaven)
THE LIST
1 lb. ricotta cheese
5 egg yolks
7/8 cup sugar
2/3 cup ground blanched almonds
1/3 cup candied orange peel
2 tsp. grated lemon rind
THE METHOD
Put cheese in electric blender. Beat egg yolks and sugar until light,
then beat in the cheese, almonds, orange peel and lemon rind. Turn into
a buttered Springform pan. Bake in preheated oven at 325 degrees for
approx. 45 minutes.
Cool completely before removing from springform.
